FAQ

  • What does acupuncture feel like?

Often patient’s report they don’t even feel the needles, and if they do it is a very small sensation. Acupuncture can often create a dull feeling around the needle and this is often encouraged in Chinese Medicine as it relates to the arrival of qi.

Some factors that influence the sensation are the tightness of the muscle, density of underlying tissue, scars, and hydration. Our Acupuncturist, Dr. Rebecca Brook, practices a subtle & gentle Japanese style of acupuncture which means patients usually don’t feel the needles. The needle gauge is also much smaller than many other styles of acupuncture.

  • How many acupuncture treatments will I need?

This is highly variable and assessed on an individual basis and what you are receiving acupuncture for. Generally, the longer you have had the condition, the more treatments you may require - this is the same in most modalities.

Most disorders require between 6 and 10 sessions in order to effectively correct or alleviate a problem. At the time of the initial examination, your Acupuncturist will evaluate your condition and will assess the approximate number of treatments needed.

As an example, attending acupuncture for natural fertility support or other women’s health conditions, it is recommended to receive acupuncture weekly for at least three cycles (it can vary as each treatment plan is unique to the individual). Your treatment plan will be discussed during your first session in clinic.

  • Is acupuncture claimable with my health fund?

Yes. At the end of your treatment you will be e-mailed your receipt which can be presented to your private health insurer for direct claiming.

  • Facial Cosmetic Acupuncture - how soon until I see results?

Usually 8-12 sessions over several weeks/months, though some clients notice a glow or firmer texture sooner. Maintenance sessions help sustain results. The skin has a cycle, so lasting changes will only occur over time-nothing is immediate in the human body!

  • IVF acupuncture support - how does it work?

IVF acupuncture is a complementary therapy designed to support women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). This holistic approach has an abundance of good quality research now, and focuses on stimulating specific acupuncture points to improve blood flow to the reproductive organs. Evidence based balancing of hormones and stress reduction are two big bonuses of receiving acupuncture during your IVF journey. These factors can all enhance the chances of a successful IVF cycle. Many women find IVF acupuncture helps to prepare them for the IVF procedure itself (transfer particularly), supports embryo implantation, and nurtures their recovery after treatment.

  • Birth preparation acupuncture - is it useful?

Acupuncture and pregnancy induction can work together as a natural way to encourage the onset of labour. Acupuncture focuses on stimulating specific points on the body to promote uterine contractions, support cervical ripening, and help the body prepare for delivery.

This holistic approach is often sought by women who want to avoid or delay medical induction methods. Treatments are most effective when provided by a qualified practitioner with experience in pregnancy care, like the team at Womb to World. It’s important to consult with your healthcare provider to ensure acupuncture is appropriate for your individual situation.
